China Reaffirms Commitment to Global Trade and WTO Reforms

Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng reiterated China's steadfast support for multilateralism and the World Trade Organization (WTO) during a high-profile meeting with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Sunday. The discussions highlighted Beijing's pledge to bolster global economic stability through cooperation and dialogue.

He emphasized that the WTO remains a cornerstone of international trade, calling for members to resolve disputes 'on an equal footing' while safeguarding global industrial and supply chains. He also reaffirmed China's commitment to engaging in WTO reforms to protect the rights of developing members.

The meeting came days after a China-U.S. economic dialogue in Geneva, where He, China's lead representative on trade matters, discussed bilateral cooperation. Okonjo-Iweala acknowledged the urgency of addressing global trade challenges, urging members to strengthen rules-based systems and advance sustainable development goals.
