From disaster response to lunar exploration, countries around the world are increasingly turning to China to advance shared goals in space — a trend driven by the nation's commitment to collaborative science and accessibility for developing economies. As Aarti Holla-Maini, director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), told CGTN: "Space exploration is meant to be for the benefit of all mankind."
Satellites Saving Lives
China's Fengyun meteorological satellites now provide critical data to 133 countries and regions, aiding climate monitoring and disaster preparedness. When a magnitude-7.9 earthquake struck Myanmar in March 2025, Chinese satellites rapidly mapped over 480 disaster sites, enabling targeted emergency response.
A Platform for Global Research
Excluded from the International Space Station due to U.S. restrictions, China built its own orbital lab — the China Space Station (CSS) — which now hosts experiments from 17 nations. Over 1,000 projects are planned in collaboration with UNOOSA and European partners, spanning climate studies and medical research.
Lunar Ambitions & Emerging Economies
The Chang'e-6 mission recently carried payloads from France and Pakistan, while Senegal signed a landmark agreement to join China's International Lunar Research Station (ILRS). "Being part of this project empowers our kids and builds infrastructure," said Senegal’s space agency head Maram Kaire.
Commercial Partnerships Thrive
China’s commercial sector is also driving innovation, launching Oman’s first collaborative remote-sensing satellite in 2024. As Romania’s first astronaut Dumitru-Dorin Prunariu noted: "In space, Earth is our shared home." With ten international projects selected for the 2029 Chang'e-8 mission, China’s open approach highlights space as a unifying frontier.
