Marking 80 years since pivotal victories in World War II, China Media Group (CMG) and Russia’s All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) hosted a cultural exchange event to honor historical ties and strengthen bilateral collaboration. The gathering, attended by over 200 political, cultural, and media leaders, underscored the enduring partnership between the two nations.
Congratulatory letters from the presidents of China and Russia were highlighted, with CMG President Shen Haixiong emphasizing their significance as recognition of media efforts to deepen cross-border friendship. Shen reaffirmed CMG's commitment to ‘building a cultural bridge’ through productions that invigorate exchanges and support the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.
VGTRK CEO Oleg Dobrodeev praised existing media cooperation as a cornerstone of bilateral ties, announcing expanded collaboration in content sharing, technology, and personnel exchanges to ‘foster mutual understanding’ between the two peoples.
The event spotlighted several initiatives: the upcoming release of the China-Russia co-produced film Red Silk, the launch of the 2025 China Film Festival in Russia, and a joint documentary revealing Soviet photojournalist Roman Kalman’s WWII-era work in China. Rare archival footage from the Chinese mainland’s resistance efforts was also presented by VGTRK.
A new peace-themed initiative encouraging public submissions of historical artifacts and images aims to craft a ‘shared vision of peace’ for future generations, reflecting the enduring relevance of WWII’s lessons.
