Xi Jinping Stresses Historical Unity, Global Justice in Key Russia Article

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for stronger international cooperation and adherence to historical truths in a signed article published in Russian media ahead of his state visit to Moscow. The article, titled “Learning from History to Build Together a Brighter Future,” commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War and the World Anti-Fascist War while underscoring China-Russia collaboration in safeguarding global stability.

Reflecting on shared wartime sacrifices, Xi highlighted the alliance between Chinese and Soviet forces during WWII. He recounted their joint resistance against fascism, including the Soviet Volunteer Group’s support in China and the CPC intelligence agent Yan Baohang’s contributions to Soviet efforts. “The strong camaraderie between our two nations, forged in blood and sacrifice, surges onward unceasingly,” Xi wrote, framing this history as a foundation for modern ties.

Xi criticized unilateralism and hegemonism, urging nations to uphold the post-WWII international order centered on the United Nations. He emphasized the UN Charter’s role in maintaining fairness, stating China and Russia must “resolutely resist all forms of hegemonism” and promote “equal and orderly multipolarity.”

Reaffirming Taiwan’s status, Xi noted that its return to China was a key outcome of WWII, supported by international agreements like the Cairo Declaration. He praised Russia’s adherence to the one-China principle and opposition to “Taiwan independence.”

The article concludes with a call for global justice through Xi’s proposed initiatives—a community with a shared future for mankind, along with global development, security, and civilization frameworks—urging nations to “choose dialogue over confrontation.”
