China Calls for Restraint as India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate

China has urged India and Pakistan to prioritize dialogue and restraint following a sudden spike in military confrontations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement Wednesday expressing “deep concern” over the situation after India conducted strikes on targets within Pakistan, prompting retaliatory measures from Islamabad.

“India and Pakistan are and will always be each other’s neighbors. They are both China’s neighbors as well,” the ministry emphasized, underscoring the regional implications of the conflict. While reiterating China’s firm stance against terrorism, the statement called on both sides to “remain calm and act in the larger interest of peace and stability.”

The escalation follows months of strained relations over territorial disputes and security concerns. Analysts warn that prolonged hostilities could destabilize South Asia and impact global economic corridors, including trade routes critical to regional supply chains. The appeal from Beijing highlights China’s role as a regional mediator, balancing strategic partnerships with both nations while advocating for de-escalation.
