China’s Premier Li Qiang Extends Congrats to Trinidad and Tobago’s New Leader

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has congratulated Kamla Persad-Bissessar on her appointment as Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, reaffirming Beijing’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. In a message delivered Saturday, Li highlighted the Caribbean nation’s role as a key regional partner, noting 51 years of diplomatic relations marked by "sound and steady development" and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The premier praised Persad-Bissessar’s historical contributions to bilateral relations and emphasized China’s willingness to deepen collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Li proposed leveraging high-quality BRI projects to elevate the two countries’ comprehensive partnership, aiming to deliver greater benefits for both peoples.

Trinidad and Tobago has been an active participant in China’s infrastructure and trade initiatives in the Caribbean, with cooperation spanning energy, technology, and cultural exchanges. This diplomatic gesture comes as Beijing continues expanding its economic footprint in Latin America and the Caribbean through development-focused partnerships.
