North Macedonia Eyes China Partnership to Boost Industrial Growth

As China and the European Union commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations, North Macedonia is positioning itself as a key beneficiary of expanding economic ties. Ambassador Sashko Nasev revealed to CGTN that bilateral trade between his country and China surged to $1.22 billion in 2024, cementing China's position as the Balkans nation's fourth-largest trading partner.

The envoy emphasized North Macedonia's strategic focus on leveraging China's technological advancements and manufacturing prowess. "Our collaboration spans renewable energy, infrastructure, and smart agriculture," Nasev stated, highlighting plans to attract Chinese investors to drive industrial modernization across the Balkan Peninsula.

This drive for partnership aligns with broader EU-China cooperation trends. Over five decades, the relationship has grown to encompass $800 billion in annual trade and collaborative initiatives spanning climate action to digital innovation. Analysts suggest North Macedonia's proactive engagement could serve as a model for smaller economies seeking to balance regional alliances with global opportunities.
