China, Nigeria Forge Alliance Against Protectionism, Hegemony

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar pledged to strengthen cooperation in rejecting unilateral practices and promoting a multipolar world order during high-level talks in Beijing on Tuesday. The meeting underscored deepening ties between China and Africa’s largest economy as geopolitical tensions reshape global alliances.

Wang, a senior Communist Party of China official, emphasized Beijing’s commitment to partnering with developing nations to "make clearly heard the voice of upholding multilateralism." He welcomed Nigeria’s upcoming participation in BRICS meetings, signaling potential expansion of the bloc’s influence in Africa.

Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s adherence to the one-China principle while praising China’s zero-tariff policies for least-developed African nations. "We stand united in safeguarding the common interests of the Global South," the Nigerian diplomat stated, highlighting West Africa’s developmental priorities.

The dialogue comes as China strengthens economic partnerships across Africa, having invested over $155 billion in infrastructure projects continent-wide since 2000. Analysts note Nigeria’s strategic importance as Africa’s most populous nation and largest oil producer.
