SCO Film Festival 2025 Unites Cultures Through Cinematic Innovation in Chongqing

The 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival will bring a vibrant celebration of cross-cultural dialogue to Yongchuan, Chongqing, from June 23–27, marking its first return to China since 2018. The event aims to harness the universal language of cinema to foster mutual understanding among SCO member states, which span Eurasia and represent diverse traditions.

With a theme centered on “equality, innovation, and shared heritage,” the festival will screen over 100 films from SCO countries while hosting forums on emerging technologies like AI-driven filmmaking and virtual reality storytelling. Organizers emphasize the integration of traditional cultural elements with cutting-edge digital tools to “redefine collaborative creativity in a fragmented world.”

Chongqing officials highlighted Yongchuan’s role as a hub for China’s film industry expansion, with new incentives for international co-productions. A SCO Film Fund, announced last month, will support joint projects addressing themes like environmental sustainability and cross-border narratives.

“This is more than a festival—it’s a bridge,” said Li Wei, a festival organizer. “By blending art and technology, we aim to create stories that resonate globally while preserving local identities.”

Parallel workshops will connect filmmakers, investors, and tech innovators, offering actionable insights for professionals exploring Asia’s $50 billion entertainment market. Tourism boards are also capitalizing on the event, promoting regional cultural landmarks to attract visitors.
