The 20th Huabiao Film Awards, China’s highest cinematic honor, unveiled its winners in Qingdao on Sunday, spotlighting the nation’s most compelling films and talents from 2022 to 2024. Ten features, including Zhang Yimou’s legal drama Article 20 and the sci-fi blockbuster The Wandering Earth 2, clinched the Outstanding Feature Film award, with the latter’s director Guo Fan earning Outstanding Director.
Actors Zhang Yi and Kara Wai Ying-hung took top honors for their roles in Endless Journey and Love Never Ends, respectively, while the animated sequel Ne Zha 2 received a Special Contribution Award for its global box-office success. China Media Group President Shen Haixiong presented awards at the National Film Administration-backed ceremony, which highlighted both recent achievements and upcoming releases.
The awards recognized films across genres, from rural dramas to animation, reflecting China’s diverse storytelling landscape. With 2025 marking 120 years of Chinese cinema and the global celebration of 130 years of film, the event also teased new releases for China’s 2025 festival season, signaling a vibrant future for the industry.
