China, Kyrgyzstan Strengthen Ties with Trade, Infrastructure Pacts

China and Kyrgyzstan solidified their partnership during high-level talks this weekend, pledging to expand free trade, uphold multilateralism, and advance key infrastructure projects such as the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway. The agreements came during a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev in Bishkek.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the two nations' 'reliable brotherhood,' stating that bilateral relations have grown rapidly under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. He reiterated China's support for Kyrgyzstan's development path and opposition to external interference in its affairs.

Kulubaev highlighted Kyrgyzstan's appreciation for China's economic support, noting that China is now the country's largest trade partner. Both sides committed to implementing prior agreements, deepening strategic trust, and fostering a 'community with a shared future.' Plans to boost cross-border rail connectivity and people-to-people exchanges were also outlined.

The ministers affirmed their coordination within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), with Kyrgyzstan endorsing China's 2024 SCO chairmanship. The meeting underscores Central Asia's growing role in global trade corridors and China's Belt and Road Initiative.
