China Vows to Counteract ‘Unilateral Bullying’ While Expanding Central Asia Ties

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi declared on Friday that China will oppose “unilateral bullying” by the U.S., framing the stance as a defense of global fairness and multilateral cooperation. The remarks came during the Sixth China-Central Asia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Almaty, where Wang met with Tajikistan’s Sirojiddin Muhriddin to discuss trade tensions and strategic partnerships.

“China’s actions aim not only to protect its legitimate rights but also to uphold the common interests of the international community,” Wang emphasized, reiterating Beijing’s commitment to free trade and opposition to protectionism. The meeting highlighted growing alignment between China and Central Asian nations amid shifting global dynamics.

Wang, a member of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Political Bureau, underscored strengthened cooperation with Tajikistan under the “strategic guidance” of both countries’ leaders. He affirmed China’s support for Tajikistan’s development path and rejection of external interference in its internal affairs.

The ministers outlined plans to deepen collaboration through the Belt and Road Initiative, legislative exchanges, and industrial projects spanning e-commerce, green energy, and healthcare. Muhriddin welcomed Chinese investment, stating Tajikistan seeks “innovative growth points” while enhancing regional connectivity.

Both sides pledged to bolster multilateral frameworks like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, with Wang endorsing Tajikistan’s upcoming High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation. Counterterrorism and border security cooperation were also emphasized as priorities for regional stability.
