China’s Top Athletes Gear Up for Diamond League Showdown in Xiamen

Sixteen Chinese athletes will represent the Chinese mainland in 10 events as the 2025 Diamond League kicks off this weekend in Xiamen, Fujian Province. The competition marks a critical step for track and field stars like Olympic medalist Zhu Yaming, who aims to build momentum ahead of major global championships later this year.

Zhu’s Comeback Trail

Zhu, fresh from earning silver at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing last month, will face a stern test in the non-points men’s triple jump event against rivals including Chinese teammate Su Wen and Burkina Faso’s world champion Hugues Fabrice Zango. The 30-year-old has revitalized his career under Brazilian coach Nelio Moura after struggling with form for two years.

Olympic Pedigree Meets Renewed Focus

With a Tokyo 2020 silver medal and 2022 World Championships bronze to his name, Zhu remains a pivotal figure in China’s athletics resurgence. 'I’ll give it my all,' he told reporters, emphasizing that clearing 17.30 meters could secure a podium finish. 'My experience in major tournaments helps me stay calm under pressure.'

Beyond Zhu, the event underscores China’s growing influence in global athletics as Xiamen hosts one of the Diamond League’s premier meets. Organizers anticipate the competition will boost local tourism while showcasing Fujian’s state-of-the-art sports infrastructure.
