China Envoy Urges Global Unity Against Unilateralism at UN

China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, called for international solidarity to counter unilateralism and economic bullying during a high-level Security Council meeting on Wednesday, emphasizing the need to protect global stability and equitable development.

Speaking at the Security Council Arria-Formula meeting, Fu warned that rising unilateral tactics, such as the U.S. imposition of tariffs on trading partners, undermine World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and global economic stability. He described these actions as a 'zero-sum game' prioritizing U.S. hegemony over shared prosperity.

'Erecting high walls of tariffs is turning back the wheel of history,' Fu said, stressing that economic globalization remains an 'irresistible trend of the times.' He urged nations to reject power politics, champion multilateralism, and ensure development benefits reach all countries equitably.

Fu also highlighted China’s role as a stabilizer, noting its zero-tariff policies for least-developed nations and commitment to high-standard openness. 'China’s super-sized market remains open to the world,' he said, inviting collaboration to advance shared growth.

His remarks concluded with a call to 'break the counter-current of unilateralism' and build a future anchored in international law and cooperation.
