China, Azerbaijan Elevate Ties with Strategic Partnership

Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met in Beijing on Wednesday to deepen bilateral cooperation, following the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership marking a milestone in 33 years of diplomatic relations. The discussions focused on expanding trade, infrastructure development, and geopolitical coordination amid global economic uncertainties.

Economic Synergy & Infrastructure

Li emphasized aligning China's Belt and Road Initiative with Azerbaijan's development goals, particularly advancing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor to enhance Europe-Asia connectivity. Plans for a China-Europe Trans-Caspian Express aim to streamline supply chains and reinforce Azerbaijan's role as a regional logistics hub.

Innovation & Green Transition

Both nations agreed to prioritize emerging sectors like green energy and digital technology, signaling opportunities for businesses in sustainable infrastructure and tech integration. Premier Li highlighted plans to “optimize trade structures” and boost cross-sector investment.

Multilateral Engagement

With rising concerns over global economic fragmentation, Li reaffirmed China's commitment to collaborate with Azerbaijan within UN frameworks and other multilateral platforms. The two leaders endorsed efforts to promote inclusive globalization and oppose unilateral trade barriers.

Cultural & Educational Bonds

Strengthening grassroots connections formed another key agenda item, with proposals to expand tourism, academic exchanges, and cultural programs to foster mutual understanding between citizens.
