Global Experts Stress Balance Between Tech Innovation and Ethics

The China Public Diplomacy Association hosted a forum on Wednesday focusing on AI’s role in reshaping education, featuring insights from academics and industry leaders. The event emphasized the necessity of integrating artificial intelligence responsibly within legal frameworks, particularly in educational settings.

AI as an Educational Catalyst

Lionel M. Ni, Founding President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), highlighted AI's transformative potential in knowledge acquisition. Advanced models like DeepSeek, he noted, enable rapid processing of vast datasets, generating summaries, research papers, and multimedia content on demand. “AI can enhance pedagogy, not replace educators,” Ni stated, urging institutions to adapt curricula to leverage these tools.

Preparing for an AI-Driven Future

Ni stressed that professionals who embrace AI will gain a competitive edge, calling its integration into education “irreversible.” Faculty at his institution are piloting AI-enhanced teaching methods to optimize learning outcomes. However, he cautioned that ethical considerations, including privacy and computational efficiency, must guide development to ensure equitable access and accountability.

The forum concluded with calls for balanced approaches to AI innovation, prioritizing cross-sector collaboration to address global challenges.
