China, EU Pledge Joint Efforts to Strengthen Multilateral Trade

China and the European Union (EU) have committed to reinforcing dialogue and collaboration to uphold a rules-based global trade system, marking a significant step in their economic partnership ahead of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025. A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce, He Yongqian, emphasized both sides' shared role as advocates for economic globalization and supporters of the World Trade Organization (WTO) during a press briefing on Thursday.

"China is ready to expand mutual opening up, deepen practical cooperation, and safeguard the multilateral trading framework with the WTO at its core," stated He. The remarks highlight efforts to stabilize global industrial and supply chains while addressing uncertainties in the world economy through strengthened China-EU economic ties.

He added that the bilateral relationship serves as a cornerstone for injecting "positive energy" into international markets. The announcement comes amid growing geopolitical shifts and underscores China's prioritization of multilateralism in its global engagements.
