China Women’s Basketball Unveils Asia Cup Roster with Olympic Vision

The Chinese women's basketball team has announced a 28-player roster ahead of the FIBA Women's Asia Cup, signaling a strategic blend of proven talent and youthful potential. Headlined by Turkish League center Li Yueru and rising stars like 19-year-old Zhang Ziyu, the squad draws heavily from domestic powerhouses Dongguan and Sichuan, whose eight combined selections dominated recent WCBA finals.

'Our goal is clear: reclaim the Asia Cup title while building a foundation for Los Angeles 2028,' said head coach Gong Luming, emphasizing the dual focus on immediate results and long-term development. The roster will undergo intensive altitude training in Kunming starting April 20 before moving to Beijing in May for specialized drills.

Six international warm-up matches between June and early July will test the team's readiness before they finalize preparations in host city Shenzhen. The July 13-20 tournament marks China's first major home-court basketball event since pandemic restrictions eased, offering both sporting stakes and economic opportunities in Guangdong Province's tech hub.
