China, Thailand Pledge Closer Ties Ahead of Diplomatic Milestone

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Thailand's Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in Beijing on Friday, marking a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations ahead of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. The meeting underscored mutual commitments to expanding collaboration in agriculture, technology, and cultural exchanges.

Wang, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, conveyed President Xi Jinping's greetings to King Maha Vajiralongkorn and expressed sympathy for those affected by Thailand’s recent earthquake. He praised Princess Sirindhorn as a “close friend of the Chinese people” who has made 55 visits across China since the 1980s, documenting the nation’s reform and modernization journey for Thai audiences.

“We stand ready to work with Thailand to create a ‘golden era 2.0’ for bilateral relations, delivering greater benefits to both peoples,” Wang stated, emphasizing opportunities arising from the upcoming diplomatic anniversary in 2025.

Princess Sirindhorn acknowledged Thailand’s deep-rooted friendship with China, highlighting gains from practical cooperation in sectors like water resource management and vocational training. She affirmed the Thai royal family’s commitment to fostering “in-depth development” of ties, aligning with regional stability and economic growth goals.

The dialogue reinforces China’s strategic outreach to Southeast Asia, offering potential avenues for investors and businesses eyeing cross-border partnerships in emerging markets.
