At the Global 6G Conference 2025, Liu Guangyi, chief expert of China Mobile, outlined a transformative vision for 6G networks, emphasizing their role in enabling artificial intelligence (AI) and reshaping societal infrastructure. While faster speeds remain part of 6G’s promise, Liu stressed that the true breakthrough lies in expanding network capabilities to support emerging technologies.
"When 5G was designed a decade ago, we underestimated AI’s explosive growth," Liu told CGTN. "Today, 6G must prioritize multidimensional innovation—integrating AI, robotics, and smart hardware into networks to make them lighter, more efficient, and cost-effective."
Liu highlighted applications such as intelligent vehicles and autonomous systems, which 6G could empower through advanced connectivity. He also noted the potential for "self-managing" networks that reduce reliance on manual maintenance, lowering operational costs for telecom providers.
"Imagine networks operating like robots, optimizing themselves in real time," Liu said, pointing to 6G’s ability to accelerate the shift toward a fully digitized society. As industries worldwide invest in AI-driven solutions, Liu’s insights suggest 6G could be the backbone of next-generation technological ecosystems.
