From Family Farm to Global Stage: The Bloom of Heze's Peony Economy
In 2000, agronomist Li Xiaoqi returned to his hometown of Heze City in Shandong Province, the Chinese mainland, transforming a small 10-mu family peony field into a 2,200-mu industrial empire. Today, his modern peony park includes export facilities, labs, and cold storage, serving as a model for agricultural innovation.
Roots of Prosperity: Empowering Communities
Li's vision sparked a local economic revival, training hundreds of farmers in peony cultivation and processing. This effort lifted communities out of poverty while establishing Heze as China's undisputed 'peony capital'—a title now reinforced by four thriving sectors: seedlings, cut flowers, processed goods, and cultural tourism.
Petals and Partnerships: A Festival of Global Exchange
Heze's 2025 World Peony Conference and 34th International Peony Cultural Tourism Festival, launched this week, will showcase 29 activities across four forums. The month-long event underscores Heze's role in bridging agricultural development, cultural heritage, and international partnerships.
"Every bloom tells a story of resilience," Li shared. "Our peonies now represent China's agricultural modernization and soft power."
