Qianlong Garden Opens After Century-Long Wait

BEIJING – In a historic move for cultural preservation, Beijing's Palace Museum will partially open the Qianlong Garden to visitors this September – marking its first public access in nearly 100 years. The secluded complex, built between 1771 and 1776 during Emperor Qianlong's reign, has undergone two decades of meticulous conservation work by Chinese and international experts.

The garden's restoration team uncovered rare bamboo-themed murals and mechanical-driven theatrical stages that reflect 18th-century imperial craftsmanship. A timed entry system will allow small groups to visit the Juanqinzhai retreat area, preserving delicate artifacts while offering unique access.

"This opening represents China's commitment to sharing its cultural legacy," said Palace Museum curator Wang Xudong, emphasizing UNESCO's partnership in the conservation project. Tourism analysts predict the reopening will boost Beijing's cultural tourism sector, with advanced booking systems implemented for crowd management.
