China Launches Anti-Dumping Probe on Medical CT Imports From US, India

China has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into specialized medical X-ray tubes used in computed tomography (CT) scanners imported from the United States and India, according to a Friday announcement by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. The move marks Beijing’s latest effort to address trade imbalances in critical medical technology components.

The probe focuses on high-precision X-ray tubes and their inserts designed for CT scanners with 16 or more detector rows. These components rely on advanced ball bearings made from high-temperature tool steel and solid lubricant coatings, enabling high-speed rotations essential for modern medical imaging. The ministry emphasized their role as the “radiation source” in CT systems, noting that tube inserts cannot function independently without a full assembly.

Authorities will examine trade practices from January 2024 to December 2024 for alleged dumping, while injury assessments cover data from 2022 through 2024. The investigation, launched on April 4, 2025, could take up to 18 months under Chinese regulations.

The decision follows a formal application by domestic producers, whose collective output reportedly meets legal thresholds under China’s anti-dumping laws. Analysts suggest the case reflects growing competition in specialized medical equipment markets as nations vie for technological leadership in healthcare infrastructure.
