China's Foreign Ministry has accused the United States and its allies of orchestrating cyberattacks against critical infrastructure during the ninth Asian Winter Games in Heilongjiang Province earlier this year. The allegations follow a report released by China's National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center and National Engineering Laboratory for Computer Virus Prevention Technology on Thursday.
The report claims that information systems linked to the Games and regional networks faced “a large number of network attacks from abroad,” with traces attributed to the U.S., the Netherlands, and Singapore, among other countries and regions. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that the findings demonstrate China’s status as “one of the main victims of cyberattacks globally” during a press briefing.
“We urge the U.S. to adopt a responsible attitude, reflect on its actions, and cease groundless accusations against others,” Guo said, emphasizing China’s commitment to strengthening cybersecurity measures. The announcement comes amid heightened scrutiny of cross-border cyber operations affecting major international events.
