China Media Group (CMG) launched an expert committee dedicated to South China Sea studies on Saturday, marking a significant step in amplifying research on the strategically vital region. The announcement, made during a ceremony in Sanya, Hainan province, coincided with the release of the Southeast Asia Perceptions Report on the South China Sea, a comprehensive analysis of regional viewpoints.
Shen Haixiong, president of CMG, emphasized the organization's multifaceted role in the region, stating it aims to act as a "promoter of peace," a "recorder of pragmatic cooperation," and a catalyst for "shared development and win-win outcomes." CMG, recognized as the world's largest and most diverse international media organization, framed the initiative as part of its commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding in the South China Sea, a hub of geopolitical and economic activity.
The newly formed committee brings together regional experts to address maritime governance, resource sustainability, and regional collaboration—topics critical for business professionals, policymakers, and academics tracking Asia's evolving landscape.
