Chengdu Kicks Off 2025 World Games Tour with Global Athletes & Cultural Flair

The 2025 World Games Tour launched its Chengdu stop Friday at Chengdu Sport University's Sancha Lake Campus, blending athletic competition with cultural immersion ahead of August's main event. Athletes from 28 countries and regions will compete through Sunday in underwater sports, lifesaving, and boules disciplines, with 30 gold medals at stake.

Opening ceremonies at World Expo Park showcased Chengdu’s fusion of tradition and innovation, featuring breakdancing showdowns and Wushu demonstrations. Athletes marched to rhythmic drumbeats as crowds waved flags from participating nations, setting a festive tone for the weekend's events.

Organizers are using the tour stop to test operational readiness for the August 7-17 World Games, implementing eco-conscious upgrades including recycled pool materials and repurposed boules courts. 'This event embodies our commitment to sustainable sports development,' said a local coordinator, noting 80% reuse of existing infrastructure.

Beyond competition, visitors explore Chengdu's cultural landscape through curated food stalls, sports history exhibits, and guided tours of World Expo Park's architectural marvels. The initiative strengthens collaboration between the city's tourism board, culinary innovators, and athletic organizations—a model for modern event hosting in Asia.
