Capital Positions Itself as Global 6G Leader with White Paper Release
Beijing has set bold ambitions for 6G leadership following the release of a comprehensive innovation white paper at the 2025 Zhongguancun Forum. The document charts the city’s strategy to become a global hub for next-generation wireless technology, supported by breakthroughs in prototype systems and academic resources.
The white paper details Beijing’s competitive advantages, including 14,000 specialized researchers and 16 university programs dedicated to telecommunications. This foundation enabled the unveiling of an experimental 6G system achieving world-record transmission speeds of 6.6 Gbps alongside enhanced sensing capabilities.
Prototype System Showcases Technical Firsts
A collaborative effort between the ZGC X-NET institute, China Mobile, and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications demonstrated three groundbreaking features:
- Dynamic resource allocation adjusting to real-time demands
- Seamless upgrades mirroring smartphone app updates
- Edge computing integration for AI-driven devices
China Mobile Research Institute President Huang Yuhong emphasized the system’s role in bridging AI and network infrastructure: "This platform supports the diverse needs of tomorrow’s intelligent applications while optimizing resource efficiency."
Roadmap to Commercialization
Academician Zhang Ping revealed critical milestones in China’s 6G development:
- Standardization discussions begin July 2025
- Industrial verification targeted for 2028
- Commercial rollout expected by 2030
