The table tennis qualifiers for China’s 15th National Games concluded Wednesday in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, after days of thrilling performances that showcased rising talent and seasoned contenders. Athletes from provinces across the country competed fiercely for a chance to participate in the prestigious event, set to take place this November.
In the men’s singles, Jiangsu’s Sun Wen delivered a dominant performance against Hebei’s Zhou Yu, securing victory in four straight games (11-8, 11-3, 11-6, 11-6). Sun’s strategic serves and consistent control of the match left little room for Zhou to counterattack. Beijing’s Huang Youzheng also advanced after a hard-fought 4-1 win over Shanghai’s Zhao Zihao, while teammate Xu Chenhao survived a dramatic seven-game clash with Heilongjiang’s Wei Shihao, overcoming a late deficit in the final game to clinch an 11-9 victory.
On the women’s side, Jiangsu’s Shi Xunyao dominated her match against Heilongjiang’s Che Xiaoxi, securing a 4-0 win. Hebei’s He Zhuojia triumphed effortlessly over Guangdong’s Yang Shilu, while teammate Wang Tianyi edged out Tianjin’s Liu Weishan in a tense seven-game showdown. Wang’s resilience in the decider, where she rallied from a 6-2 deficit, marked one of the qualifiers’ most thrilling moments.
The mixed doubles event saw the final two pairs secure their spots, with Hebei’s Liang Yanning and He Zhuojia defeating Fujian’s Su Yujie and Xiao Yujie in straight games. Tianjin’s Hao Shuai and Liu Weishan also advanced decisively, showcasing their synergy with a clean 3-0 victory over Chongqing’s Yin Mengze and He Xiaoyu.
