A spokesperson for the Chinese mainland has condemned actions by the Taiwan authorities led by Lai Ching-te, accusing them of undermining freedom of speech and fundamental rights for residents of Taiwan. The remarks came during a press conference held by Chen Binhua of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office on Wednesday.
Chen addressed reports that two individuals in the Taiwan region faced investigations after posting statements such as "I am Chinese" and "I love China" on social media. He described these measures as part of a broader "green terror" strategy aimed at suppressing dissent and creating a "chilling effect" on public expression.
According to Chen, the actions of the Taiwan authorities—including threats, intimidation, and retaliation—expose the contradictions between their claims of democracy and their treatment of dissenting voices. "This hypocrisy is clear for the world to see," he stated, emphasizing concerns over restrictions on freedom of thought and speech among Taiwan compatriots.
