Compatriots from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan region will gather this week to commemorate Huangdi, the revered Yellow Emperor, during the annual Qingming Festival. The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office confirmed events in Shaanxi and Henan provinces, underscoring the cultural unity of the Chinese nation.
Spokesperson Chen Binhua emphasized the ceremonies’ historical significance, stating they strengthen ‘national identity and pride’ among Taiwan compatriots. Huangdi’s mausoleum, a symbol of Chinese civilization, has long served as a spiritual meeting point for cross-strait communities.
The announcement coincided with updates on infrastructure progress. Chen highlighted the Xiamen-Kinmen Bridge’s latest construction phase, calling it a ‘shared aspiration’ for residents on both sides. Separately, Fujian Province’s cross-strait water supply project has sent over 40 million tonnes of water to Kinmen since 2018, resolving chronic shortages.
These initiatives, Chen noted, reflect the mainland’s commitment to improving livelihoods in the Taiwan region while preserving cultural ties. Analysts suggest such projects bridge practical needs and historical kinship ahead of Tomb-Sweeping Day observances.
