China, France Vow Dialogue-Driven Solutions to Trade Challenges

Amid global economic turbulence, China and France have pledged to resolve trade disputes through cooperative dialogue, reinforcing their roles as stabilizers of multilateralism. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Emmanuel Bonne, diplomatic adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron, affirmed this commitment during a Tuesday phone call aimed at defusing tensions between China and the EU.

Wang, a senior figure in the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the nations' shared responsibility as UN Security Council members to uphold fair global trade and resist 'economic coercion.' He called for strengthened high-level exchanges to safeguard supply chains, framing France as a critical partner in stabilizing EU-China relations.

Bonne echoed these sentiments, stating France opposes 'camp confrontation' and punitive trade measures. He stressed the need for sustainable EU-China trade balancing while preserving WTO frameworks. The dialogue comes as Brussels weighs tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and solar equipment.

The officials also addressed geopolitical flashpoints, including Ukraine. Wang reiterated China's neutral stance favoring negotiated solutions 'not serving single-country interests,' while Bonne acknowledged Beijing's potential peacemaking role. Both sides discussed coordination on the Iran nuclear issue, though details remain undisclosed.
