China Urges G7 to Prioritize Cooperation Over Confrontation

China has called on G7 members to align their actions with global stability and mutual respect, urging a shift away from policies perceived as undermining sovereignty and international cooperation. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning addressed the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting statements during a press briefing on Monday, emphasizing Beijing's stance on key issues ranging from cross-strait relations to global security.

Mao refuted claims in the G7 declarations regarding the Taiwan question and maritime security, stating that "the Taiwan question is at the core of China's core interests" and affirming the South China Sea's stable conditions for navigation. She described the G7 statements as "deliberate mischaracterizations" and confirmed China's formal protests to relevant countries.

On Ukraine, Mao reiterated China's commitment to peace talks and strict controls on dual-use exports, rejecting allegations of weapons provision to conflict parties. Addressing nuclear policy concerns, she noted China maintains minimal nuclear capabilities for national security while criticizing AUKUS nuclear proliferation risks as overlooked by G7 members.

The spokesperson dismissed claims of Chinese industrial overcapacity as "a false proposition," urging G7 economies to avoid politicizing trade relations. "The bloc should focus on addressing global challenges like sustainable development rather than stoking division," Mao concluded, advocating for collaborative approaches to multilateral issues.
