China’s domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Magic City, completed its 100th voyage on Monday, solidifying a milestone for the country’s burgeoning maritime tourism sector. The ship, which began commercial operations in early 2024, has transported over 350,000 passengers from around the world, reflecting robust international interest in China’s cruise industry.
Docking at Shanghai’s Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal at dawn, passengers disembarked with glowing reviews. \"There are slides, swimming pools, and ‘gardens on the sea’ on the cruise,\" said a young traveler, highlighting the ship’s family-friendly amenities. Another passenger expressed enthusiasm: \"I hope to bring my parents next time—it’s an experience worth sharing.\"
Shanghai’s maritime authorities emphasized enhanced safety measures to support the vessel’s operations. Sheng Jinghao of the Baoshan Maritime Safety Administration noted advanced tools like smart platforms and VTS systems ensure smooth navigation and real-time weather updates. Qiao Yingsong from the Pujiang Border Inspection Station added that streamlined customs processes, including digital inspections, have cut wait times for travelers.
A symbol of global collaboration, the Adora Magic City involved over 1,000 international manufacturers in its construction. Analysts view this achievement as a leap forward in China’s ability to compete in high-value maritime industries while fostering cross-border partnerships.
