Xi Jinping Extends International Women’s Day Greetings to Chinese Women

Chinese President Xi Jinping warmly acknowledged the contributions of women across the nation ahead of International Women’s Day, celebrated globally on March 8. Speaking during a joint group meeting at the third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Xi emphasized the importance of gender equality and women’s role in advancing societal progress.

As general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, Xi’s remarks underscored the government’s commitment to empowering women in education, employment, and leadership. The CPPCC, a cornerstone of China’s political advisory system, provided a platform to highlight these priorities ahead of the annual observance.

Bridging Tradition and Progress

Xi’s message resonated with the CPPCC’s focus on inclusive policymaking, particularly in addressing challenges faced by women in rural areas and underrepresented sectors. Analysts note that China has increasingly prioritized gender parity in recent years, with women constituting over 40% of the national workforce and holding key roles in science, technology, and governance.

International Women’s Day, first celebrated in China in 1924, continues to serve as a reminder of the nation’s strides toward equitable development. Observances this year are expected to include forums on workplace equality and cultural events celebrating women’s achievements.
