China Urges Equal Dialogue with U.S. on Fentanyl Dispute

The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a firm call for fair negotiations with the United States on addressing fentanyl concerns during a press conference Wednesday, emphasizing equality and mutual respect in bilateral discussions.

Spokesperson Lin Jian stated that China is prepared to collaborate on resolving the synthetic opioid crisis only if Washington abandons 'bullying tactics' and refrains from undermining Beijing's interests. 'True progress requires addressing both sides' concerns through reciprocal cooperation,' Lin asserted.

The remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of international efforts to control precursor chemicals used in fentanyl production. While China has implemented strict domestic controls on such substances since 2019, discussions about cross-border enforcement remain contentious.

Analysts suggest this exchange reflects broader tensions in U.S.-China relations, particularly regarding trade policies and pharmaceutical regulations. The foreign ministry's statement underscores Beijing's growing insistence on parity in global diplomacy.

Observers note that future negotiations may impact international drug control frameworks and bilateral trade relations between the world's two largest economies.
