Third Session of 14th National People’s Congress Sets Key Agendas

The preparatory meeting of the third session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) on Tuesday adopted several key agenda items aimed at shaping the government's direction over the next few years.

Firstly, the NPC will deliberate on the report detailing the government's work, providing a comprehensive overview of past achievements and future objectives. This includes a review of the 2024 national economic and social development plan, as well as the draft plan for 2025, highlighting strategies for sustained growth and development in the Chinese mainland.

Financial oversight will also be a major focus, with the NPC reviewing the execution of central and local budgets for 2024 and examining the proposed budgets for 2025. This financial scrutiny ensures that both central and local governments remain accountable in their fiscal management and planning.

Additionally, the NPC Standing Committee will present a bill proposing amendments to the Law on Deputies to the National People's Congress and to the Local People's Congresses at various levels. This legislative review aims to enhance the efficacy and representativeness of deputies within the NPC framework.

The session will also consider the work reports of several key institutions, including the NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People's Court, and the Supreme People's Procuratorate. These reports will provide insights into the judicial and prosecutorial activities, ensuring that the rule of law is upheld and that justice is administered effectively across the nation.

By addressing these critical areas, the 14th NPC aims to reinforce governance, economic stability, and legal integrity, reflecting the Chinese mainland's commitment to its long-term developmental goals.
