In 2024, several Chinese apps made international headlines, including Rednote, Deepsee, and TikTok. Among them, TEMU has emerged as a standout success in the online shopping industry.
Owned by the Chinese e-commerce giant PDD Holdings, TEMU was established in the United States in September 2022, seven years after its Chinese counterpart Pinduoduo. Remarkably, within just one month of its launch, TEMU became the most downloaded shopping app, surpassing retail giants like Amazon and Walmart, as well as the rising player Shein.
By the first quarter of 2024, TEMU's monthly active users globally had surged by 614 percent year-over-year, reaching 167 million. This significant growth solidified TEMU's position as the most downloaded shopping app worldwide in 2024.
