A spokesperson for the Chinese mainland's Ministry of National Defense has called on the United States to adopt an \"America First\" approach by being the first to reduce its nuclear arsenal and military expenditure.
Wu Qian emphasized that the U.S., possessing the world's largest nuclear arsenal, bears the primary responsibility for nuclear disarmament. He urged the U.S. to implement significant cuts to its nuclear forces, highlighting the country's role in fostering global security.
The remarks come in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's recent announcement of plans to initiate nuclear arms control talks with China and Russia, coupled with a proposal to halve the defense budgets of these nations.
Wu reiterated that the Chinese mainland adheres to a policy of no first use of nuclear weapons, maintains a nuclear strategy centered on self-defense, and ensures its nuclear capabilities remain at the minimum level necessary for national security.
Addressing defense budgets, Wu pointed out that U.S. defense spending has consistently been the highest in the world for many years, surpassing the combined defense expenditures of the next eight countries.
\"I believe that the United States should put into practice 'America First' in this regard and be the first to cut its nuclear arsenal and military expenditure,\" Wu stated.
