Travelers passing through Xi'an Xianyang International Airport now have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in history while waiting for their flights. The airport has introduced the world’s first in-house archaeological museum, showcasing thousands of years of cultural heritage.
During a significant expansion project from June 2020 to October 2022, archaeologists meticulously excavated the construction area, uncovering an impressive 6,848 ancient cultural relics. Among these discoveries were 4,093 tombs and 2,755 sites, including pottery kilns, ash pits, trenches, and ancient roads. These findings have led to the unearthed collection of over 22,000 artifacts, highlighting the region's profound historical importance.
The in-house museum not only enhances the passenger experience by providing an engaging environment but also preserves and celebrates the rich archaeological heritage of Xi'an.
