At the high-level meeting of the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized China's commitment to fostering fair and people-centered global human rights governance. Delivering a video address, Wang highlighted the importance of upholding a correct view of human rights that prioritizes the right to subsistence and development as fundamental human rights.
Wang stressed that China is willing to collaborate with all countries to reform and improve the global human rights framework. He firmly rejected actions that interfere in the internal affairs of other nations under the guise of human rights, underscoring the need to respect national sovereignty, security, and the safety of people's lives.
\"Fairness and justice must be upheld, and the right to subsistence and development should be prioritized as fundamental human rights,\" Wang stated. He condemned the use of double or multiple standards in human rights issues, advocating for exchanges and mutual learning among nations. Wang asserted that the international community should reject any attempts to impose one’s own models and preferences on others or to politicize human rights.
Further reinforcing China's stance, Chen Xu, China's permanent representative to the UN Office in Geneva, called on the international community to actively engage in the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Initiative. During the event, Chen outlined China's position on humanitarian issues and emphasized the necessity of joint efforts to uphold humanitarian principles and protect civilians in conflict zones.
Chen noted the dire state of the current global humanitarian crisis and described promoting effective compliance with IHL as a pressing challenge of our time. He reiterated China's commitment to peace talks, supporting peace and hope in conflict zones, assisting Africa and other developing countries, and alleviating the suffering of people affected by conflicts.
China aims to build a community with a shared future for humankind by promoting international cooperation and civilizational exchange, striving to create a brighter future for human rights worldwide.
