Chinese Navy Affirms East Coast Drills Align with International Law

The Chinese mainland has stated that its naval military drills off Australia's east coast comply with relevant international laws and practices. Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, made the remarks on Friday during a daily news briefing.

According to Guo, the drills are organized by the Southern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) as part of routine training exercises in distant waters. He emphasized that these operations are conducted in a safe, regulated, and professional manner.

Meanwhile, the Australian government issued a warning to airlines on Friday regarding potential live-fire exercises by the Chinese navy in the Tasman Sea, which lies between Australia and New Zealand. Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles stated on Thursday that the Chinese naval task group operating in Australia's exclusive economic zone off its east coast does not pose any threats and does not breach maritime laws.

Australia has been closely monitoring the Chinese navy task group since it entered the country's maritime approaches last week. The Australian authorities affirmed that their surveillance ensures the safety and security of the region.
