China and Russia Pledge to Strengthen Ties at G20 Summit

During the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in discussions with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, focusing on fortifying China-Russia relations.

Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, emphasized that the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era is progressing to higher levels and broader dimensions.

He highlighted the steady progress in mutually beneficial cooperation and close strategic coordination between the two nations, noting their crucial role in safeguarding the shared interests of both countries and their peoples, while advancing the process of global multipolarity.

Wang expressed China's willingness to collaborate with Russia to fully implement the important consensus reached by their leaders and further promote China-Russia relations in the coming year.

On his part, Lavrov stated that Russia is prepared to work with China to strengthen high-level exchanges and deepen practical cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, finance, and culture. He underscored the importance of promoting the further development of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.

Lavrov also noted that both countries uphold multipolarity and act as stabilizing forces in a complex global environment. He acknowledged Russia's high recognition of China's global initiatives and the strong mutual trust between the two nations. Lavrov expressed Russia's commitment to enhancing communication and coordination with China within frameworks like BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the United Nations, and the G20.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views and coordinated positions on international and regional issues of mutual concern, including the situation in the Middle East.
