Su Bingtian, Asia's record-holder in the men's 100-meter sprint, marked a triumphant end to his illustrious career by winning the men's 60-meter race in 6.65 seconds at the third stop of the Chinese National Indoor Athletics Championships in Jinan, Shandong Province, on Tuesday.
Competing against over 150 athletes divided into 19 groups, Su stood out in the final group alongside fellow Guangdong athletes Chen Guangfeng and Wu Haoling, as well as competitors Shi Yuhao and Sui Gaofei from Jiangsu.
At 35, Su demonstrated exceptional skill with the second-best start among all participants, effortlessly overtaking his rivals in the middle stretch of the race to secure victory. His impressive time of 6.65 seconds not only marked the second-best performance of the Championships but also ties for the 10th-best time in Asia.
Reflecting on his career, Su shared on social media, \"It feels special to come back to the track. Everything I recall since my first indoor race 20 years ago became memories. I have finished my last 60-meter race of career in 6.65 seconds. I want to thank the organizing committee and the friends who have been supporting me. I will continue to focus on recovering and prepare for my final National Games of China at home.\"
The 15th National Games of China are scheduled to take place in Guangdong Province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Macao Special Administrative Region from November 9 to 21. Su has announced his intention to retire following the Games, capping off a remarkable athletic journey.
