Chinese FM Wang Yi Reaffirms Commitment to United Nations Leadership

In a significant statement on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized China's unwavering support for the central role of the United Nations in addressing global challenges. Speaking after chairing a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council, Wang highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation in an increasingly turbulent international landscape.

Wang, who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, underscored the necessity of upholding the authority and role of the United Nations amidst escalating geopolitical competition and complex global changes. He expressed China's readiness to continue close collaboration with the UN to advance true multilateralism and promote world peace and development.

During their meeting, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres acknowledged China's pivotal role within the United Nations framework. Guterres expressed full agreement with and active support for the three global initiatives proposed by Premier Xi Jinping, reinforcing the collaborative spirit between China and the UN.

Addressing the current global landscape, Guterres called on all nations to enhance cooperation and work collectively towards peace and sustainable development. He emphasized that the United Nations remains committed to addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the world today.
