China Launches ‘Travel with Chinese Films’ Initiative to Boost Tourism

In a bid to intertwine cinematic success with tourism growth, China unveiled the \"Travel with Chinese Films\" initiative on Monday at the China National Film Museum in Beijing. The initiative seeks to capitalize on the international acclaim of recent Chinese New Year blockbusters such as Ne Zha II, Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force, and Detective Chinatown 1900, alongside newly introduced visa-free transit policies, to attract a surge of overseas visitors to China.

Hosted by the China Film Administration and China Media Group (CMG), and organized by China Global Television Network (CGTN) and the Film Channel Program Center, the initiative emphasizes a \"film + tourism\" approach. This strategy integrates Chinese film screenings, international film festivals, and overseas Chinese film festivals to offer foreign audiences an immersive experience of China through its rich cinematic storytelling.

By fostering innovative collaborations between the film and tourism sectors, the initiative aims to develop themed travel routes that provide immersive journeys into both China’s movie culture and its diverse natural and cultural landscapes. This seamless blend of media exposure and consumer engagement is designed to enhance China’s appeal as a premier travel destination.

Jiang Qiudi, head of CMG’s Europe Bureau, highlighted that CMG plans to utilize its extensive global network of foreign correspondents and partnerships with international media outlets and social platforms to amplify the initiative’s reach. The organization intends to strengthen collaborations with global film institutions and establish flagship events that showcase outstanding Chinese films, thereby solidifying the global presence of Chinese cinema.

The launch event also featured updates from filmmakers and production teams behind this year’s New Year blockbusters, discussing their box office performances internationally. The event was attended by representatives from CMG, the Film Bureau of the Publicity Department of CPC Central Committee, major Chinese film production and distribution companies, film studios, travel agencies, and the Silk Road International Film Festival.
