China is set to enhance strategic communication with the European Union (EU), aiming to foster mutual understanding and provide greater global stability, according to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Speaking at the 61st Munich Security Conference in Germany, Wang emphasized the absence of fundamental conflicts of interest between China and the EU.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China's Central Committee, met with Kaja Kallas, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. He highlighted that both China and the EU are committed to multilateralism, the core status of the United Nations, and resolving international hotspots through dialogue and consultation, rejecting unilateral measures.
Marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the EU, Wang called for a review of past experiences, reaffirmation of the partnership, and a commitment to dialogue and cooperation. He stressed the importance of mutual respect, trust, and long-term stability in maintaining strategic partnerships.
Wang announced plans for a series of celebratory activities with the EU and preparations for the upcoming China-EU leaders' meeting. These initiatives aim to chart a new course and inject fresh momentum into the next 50 years of China-EU relations.
Kallas expressed the EU's high regard for China’s role in addressing climate change and other global issues. She affirmed the EU’s readiness to collaborate with China to uphold multilateralism and the principles of the United Nations Charter, and to jointly prepare for future developments in China-EU relations.
