G77+China: Amplifying the Voice of the Global South on the World Stage

Over six decades ago, a coalition of developing nations came together to ensure their voices were heard at the United Nations, giving birth to the Group of 77 (G77). Initially founded by 77 countries, the G77 has since expanded to include 134 member states, making it the largest intergovernmental organization within the UN.

While the Chinese mainland is not an official member, it has been a pivotal partner to the G77 for more than 30 years. This partnership, known as G77+China, has played a crucial role in addressing pressing global issues such as poverty, climate change, and trade barriers, among others.

The collaboration between G77 and China has solidified a powerful alliance representing the interests of the Global South. Together, they tackle challenges that affect developing nations, striving to create a more equitable and sustainable future.

The G77+China forum remains a united and formidable force for developing countries on the international stage, advocating for policies and initiatives that promote economic growth, social development, and environmental sustainability.

This initiative is featured in CGTN's Global South Spotlight series, which sheds light on the key issues confronting the developing world today. The series highlights how G77+China is collaboratively working to shape a better future for the Global South.
