Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the rapid changes the world is experiencing and the crucial role that both the Chinese mainland and the UK, as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, play in maintaining international peace and security. He called for enhanced collaboration in critical areas such as climate change, artificial intelligence, and green development to contribute positively to global stability.
The discussions also touched upon the positive momentum in Sino-British relations, with Wang noting the significant potential for practical cooperation. He affirmed that the UK’s Labour government is pursuing a rational and pragmatic policy towards the Chinese mainland, aligning with both national interests and global trends. Wang expressed China’s commitment to working with the UK to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, aiming to stabilize and enhance the positive development of bilateral relations.
Key areas identified for expanded cooperation include infrastructure, trade and investment, and clean energy, with the goal of benefiting both nations and their peoples. In addition to his meeting with Prime Minister Starmer, Wang Yi met with Jonathan Powell, the British Prime Minister’s national security advisor, to discuss strategic security and other mutual concerns.
