An explosion in Taichung City's Taiwan region department store on Thursday has killed five people and injured 11, according to local media reports.
Search and rescue efforts are underway, with 62 rescue personnel dispatched to the scene.
Reports indicate that a gas explosion occurred at 11:40 a.m. in the food area of the department store during construction work, with videos showing smoke billowing and large pieces of debris blown onto the street.
Local authorities stated that the cause of the incident is still being verified.
