In a significant move towards fostering global cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), Zhang Guoqing, the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, attended the AI Action Summit in Paris on Monday. Zhang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and vice premier of the State Council, emphasized the importance of promoting common development and security in the AI sector.
Addressing the summit, Zhang highlighted that AI has become a pivotal force driving the new wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation. He underscored China's commitment to participating in the global governance of AI responsibly, referencing the Global AI Governance Initiative introduced by President Xi in October 2023, which aims to contribute Chinese wisdom to the international discourse.
Facing both opportunities and challenges in AI development, Zhang called on the international community to collaborate more deeply, enhancing innovative cooperation, inclusiveness, and universal benefits. He stressed the need to improve global governance structures to effectively manage the rapid advancements in AI technology.
China also extended an invitation to all parties to join the 2025 World AI Conference in Shanghai, signaling its readiness to take a leading role in shaping the future of AI on the global stage. The summit saw participation from heads of state and government, high-level representatives from over 30 countries, and leaders of international organizations, all of whom issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to collaborative AI development.
During his visit to France, Zhang met with French President Emmanuel Macron. The discussions focused on enhancing communication and cooperation between China and France, with both leaders pledging to promote peace and development through strengthened bilateral relations.
